The Upward Bound Center teaches students how to select the college that best suits their needs and how to get the necessary financial assistance to attend that college. Students visits different universities, learn about college life and are exposed to different fields of study. They are taught what a college looks for in potential students, so that each student can select and prepare for the college they want to attend. Both students and parents receive information on financial aid, financial planning and learn how to properly complete and submit any necessary forms.
For students who participate on the program, high school graduation is only a stepping-stone towards a greater goal - successfully completing college.
Parent Participation
Increasing parent awareness of information, resources and college prerequisites further empowers parents to motivate their children to pursue a college education. Parents are encouraged to actively participate in the program by supporting the students, attending workshops and serving as chaperones on special activities and field trips.
